Our History

​

In 1970, a visionary group of Tampa Bay parents established Hillel Academy to create a Jewish day school that would nurture their children and strengthen the community. That year, Hillel Academy opened its doors to 30 students in grades one through four, housed at Congregation Rodeph Sholom in South Tampa.

Guided by a commitment to personal achievement and pride in heritage, Hillel quickly gained recognition as a stellar academic institution. As enrollment grew, the school outgrew its original location. In 1984, it moved to the Jewish Community Center in South Tampa, expanding its offerings to include kindergarten through eighth grade. By 1992, further growth necessitated a move to a larger campus, and Hillel Academy purchased its current 10-acre North Tampa property, which was previously a horse farm and stables.

In 2021, Hillel Academy entered a new chapter with the opening of the Forman Early Learning Center, providing a nurturing environment for the youngest learners. That same year, the academy became a Cambridge International School for Advanced Studies, adopting a globally-focused curriculum designed to prepare students for success in an interconnected world. A Cambridge education emphasizes critical thinking, independent learning, and a well-rounded approach to academics.

In 2024, the Forman Event Center became the newest addition to Hillel’s campus, offering a state-of-the-art indoor gym and event space for students and the broader community.

Today, Hillel Academy serves students from 1 year old through 8th grade. For half a century, the school has played an integral role in the Tampa Bay area, fostering academic excellence, Jewish values, and active citizenship. It remains dedicated to preparing students to thrive as confident and compassionate members of society.
